First Sale File, 2000 - 2002
Scope and Contents
A file of papers concerning matters prior to and following the first sale of Spitting Image puppets by Sotheby's, held online over 14 days in July 2000. A large proportion of the file's contents are correspondence, in the form of faxes, and they cover the following topics: the preparation of puppets for the sale; the preparation of photographs; matters regarding payments owed following the sale; the intention to sell the unsold puppets at another auction; and initial preparation work for that second sale. Along with the correspondence, the following documents are also present: a private treaty sale agreement; a post-auction sales contract; schedule for remedial work on puppets; lists of puppets with information on what work needs to be done on them; press releases; and lists of photographic transparencies to be used to produce new prints for the sale.
Also present are correspondence concerning the valuation of Harold Wilson and Michael Foot puppets, donated to the National Museum of Labour History [now the People's History Museum, Manchester].
The contents of this file overlap with those found in entry, MS Add.10275/5/7/2/1/1.
