Roger Law (Post-Spitting Image Years), c 1970s, c 1996-2024
Scope and Contents
This section of the Roger Law Archive represents Law's personal and professional lives, following the final series of Spitting Image in 1996, and the winding down of Spitting Image Productions Limited's other activities at the end of the 1990s. The material in this period are dominated by a number of themes: Law's relocation to Australia in the late 1990s, and his artistic output while there; the sale of Spitting Image puppets at two auctions, in 2000 and 2001; ceramic ware produced by Law during his many visits to the Chinese pottery city, Jingdezhen, between 2006 and 2014; the legacy of Spitting Image; and the reboot of that programme at the end of the 2010s.
This part of the archive has been split into the following sub-sections: material relating to public lectures and interviews given by Law on the various aspects of his professional output; media CVs and press releases; general correspondence; character and professional references connected to Law's Australian visa application; external publications, which either have articles about Law and Spitting Image or have pieces written by him; material connected to Law's 2005 autobiography, Still Spitting at Sixty; documentation relating to the auction of Spitting Image puppets and other items; Law's involvement in television programmes and proposed TV projects; items connected to an honorary doctorate bestowed upon Law by Loughborough University; invitations to events; material relating to exhibitions, which were either connected to Spitting Image or Law's Australian and Chinese artistic output, or involved the loan of items from him; the Spitting Image reboot; and items connected to the Roger Law Archive and its eventual deposit with Cambridge University Library in 2018. There is also a small series for miscellaneous items.
