Pre-First Sale File, 1999 - 2000
Scope and Contents
A file of papers concerning matters prior to the first sale of Spitting Image puppets by Sotheby's, held online over 14 days in July 2000. The majority of items present are correspondence, in the form of faxes, and they cover the following topics: early interest from the Christie's auction house to host a sale; a proposed exhibition at Whitechapel Art Gallery, which would have preceded the sale at Sotheby's; the preparation of puppets and photographs for the sale; and concerns over the auction being held over the internet, using the Amazon.com website. Along with the correspondence, the following documents are also present: a proposed business plan for an exhibition and auction; lists of puppets to be sold; a blank master agreement from Sothebys.Amazon.Com; and printouts from the Amazon.com internet auction.
The contents of this file overlap with those found in entry, MS Add.10275/5/7/2/1/2.
