Sierra Leone Letters, 1937-01 - 1938-01
Scope and Contents
A series of letters written by Lanning while employed by Gold & Base Metal Mines of Nigeria Limited. They discuss his work as a prospector and surveyor working in Makele, Makari and on and around the Pampana and Tebenko Rivers. Subjects include pay, accommodation, colleagues, road and camp organisation, drilling, dredging, soil samples, gold production, the supervision of labour, and mining prospects. Lanning also describes his social life and travel, and the region’s African peoples (circa 150 sheets).
