157 x 112 mm. A view looking across pastureland, on which cattle are grazing, towards forest and distant hills. Alldridge recalls Sinkunia, situated west of Falaba about 150 miles from Freetown as the crow flies, as 'a picturesque and open town with high hills near. The sight of cattle grazing recalled many a pretty scene of pastoral English landscape'. (Alldridge 1901, page 290).

Two title deeds conveying erven in the town of Pietersburg, Transvaal, 29 January 1889 and 15 February 1896, and two title deeds conveying farms in the Pietersburg district, 17 November 1897 and 17 August 1889. The four documents are in Afrikaans and have been signed by Kruger.

They discuss his work as a prospector and surveyor working in Makele, Makari and on and around the Pampana and Tebenko Rivers. Subjects include pay, accommodation, colleagues, road and camp organisation, drilling, dredging, soil samples, gold production, the supervision of labour, and mining prospects. Lanning also describes his social life and travel, and the region’s African peoples...
