Alldridge recalls Sinkunia, situated west of Falaba about 150 miles from Freetown as the crow flies, as 'a picturesque and open town with high hills near. The sight of cattle grazing recalled many a pretty scene of pastoral English landscape'. (Alldridge 1901, page 290).

Subjects include pay, accommodation, colleagues, road and camp organisation, drilling, dredging, soil samples, gold production, the supervision of labour, and mining prospects. Lanning also describes his social life and travel, and the region’s African peoples...
