Large Transparencies, 1987 - 1997

Scope and Contents

A file holding 9 200mm x 250mm photographic transparencies, which contain images used as part of Spitting Image Productions Limited merchandise, external advertising campaigns involving the work of SIPL, and a set of unpublished Royal Mail stamps. The following images are present:

1. Two examples of the Margaret Thatcher 'Adoration of the Statue' image used in the British version of the SIPL publication, Spitting Images (SI/32).

2. A plasticine model of British police officer, James Anderton, used in the British version of Spitting Images (SI/154).

3. A portrait image of Roger Law's face, half of which is Law himself and the other a latex foam puppet, which was used in the SIPL publication, Goodbye! (SI/225).

4. An image of Roger Law, face to face with his own puppet, which was used in the publication, A Nasty Piece of Work: The Art and Graft of Spitting Image (SI/390).

5. The centre panel image used on the Spitting Image board game, The Game of Scandal (SI/446).

6. Ansells Beer promotion (SI/1110).

7. Cadbury's Creme Egg promotion with a plasticine model of pop musician, Gary Glitter (SI/682).

8. Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff plasticine models, as Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster respectively, taken for a set of rejected Royal Mail stamps (SI/493 (a) and (b)).

All the photographic images were taken by John Lawrence Jones, with the exception of the stamps, which were taken by Steve Bendelack.

These transparencies were originally all loose in the same box, held with a variety of non-photographic material. They have been separated from the non-photographic material and merged together into one file.
