Mr. Bigg/Highly Sprung, 1992 - 1996
Scope and Contents
A box containing material relating to the Spitting Image Productions Limited childrens' television character, Mr. Bigg, and SIPL's attempts to work with the British Broadcasting Corporation to produce a series revolving around him. Between 1992 and 1994, work was done to develop a series titled, Bigg New World. In December 1995, an agreement was then struck between SIPL and the BBC for the former to produce eight 'inserts' [short clips] that would feature in a childrens' television series of eight programmes, titled For Amusement Only. Other production companies were also invited to submit clips for this series, with the idea that the audience would vote for their favourite and a full series for the winning submission would follow. SIPL submitted their clips for the show, which was retitled, Highly Sprung, and it was broadcasted by BBC 2, every sunday morning between 14 January and 26 February 1996. It was hoped that SIPL's Mr. Bigg would win, and a proposal for a new show, Bigg Hospital, was produced. However, no series ever went ahead.
Material present in this box includes, but is not limited to: business agreements; correspondence; draft scripts; proposals; and other documentation.
