Biographical / Historical
The society was established in 1983 after the presentation to the Faculty of Music of the Gamelan Duta Laras ('Ambassador of Hope') by the Indonesian Embassy. Although affiliated to the University, the society has drawn its membership from both inside and outside the scholarly community. Its activities have ranged from regular classes of instruction to performances in combination with dance and shadow-play.
