Research notes: Box 2, 1920 - 1939
Scope and Contents
References, mostly from manuscripts, to medieval local government with special reference to courts and jurisdictions, most notably the Hundred. Many envelopes date from the 1920s and 1930s.
Notes are tied into numbered bundles which correspond to the following themes:
1) notes relating to the Hundred Rolls or 'Rageman' - 6 bundles;
2) notes relating to coroners - 2 bundles;
3) notes relating to the function of officials;
4) notes relating to views on Frankpledge;
5) notes relating to Sherriffs - 3 bundles;
6) notes relating to 'Issues of the Shire' - e.g. taxation, execution and fines.
Also four small indexed notebooks containing check-lists of mss and bibliographies.
