The original envelope was labelled in Aelfrida Tillyard's hand: 'Wartime letters 1939' - the contents actually date from 11 Jan 1939 - 11 April 1940. The letters are mostly addressed from St Cuthbert's Mission. Many of the letters originally enclosed photographs which are not present in the file [they may be the loose photographs at GCPP Graham A1 2/2]. The file also contains one letter addressed to 'Dear Dudu' [Alethea's Uncle Julius, Aelfrida's brother], 19 August 1939.
