Scope and Contents

Lolworth Rectory. Several visits to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for treatment for osteoarthritis. Visits from Alethea. Other visitors include Fidelio, Dr Wynn, Hilda Harrison. Alethea leaves again for South Africa in Nov. 1948. Julius returns from South Africa in Dec. 1948. Parish visiting, church services, village life and events. Frequent thoughts of Tymawr, though the longing to be there seems less strong. Fr Lovell ill or suffering some sort of breakdown? Further comment on vocation to silence. Contemplates living permanently at Hope House / Wetenhall Cottage but Dr Wynn feels she would be unlikely to be at home in a Roman Catholic convent. Occasional day trips to Cambridge and longer stays at Wetenhall Cottage in Sep. 1948 and Sep. 1949. Writing: sells 9 Napier Street, Cambridge for £500 to fund private publication of 'The Fruits of Silence'; revising Part II of 'The Fruits of Silence'; finishes a first draft of 'Just Alice', a 'novel of the spirit'. At back and front: nature notes. At front: miscellanous notes including telephone numbers, expenditure, list of books read in Lent 1949. Pasted in at back: 4 photographs of Alethea.
