Personal diaries: Volume 63, 1945-03-29 - 1946-05-16
Scope and Contents
Tymawr. Family: Eustace is appointed Master of Jesus College, Cambridge; Alethea is unlikely to return for two years at least; visits from Julius and Mina, and Veronica; Wetenhall Cottage is to be vacated from Sep. 1946. Writing: finishes 'The Glory of the West' and begins revising it. Continued comment on the war, including Hitler's death and comment from the point of view of Mina being German. Frequent description of enjoyment of the various festivals of the church; occasional visions; retreats; experiences a miracle; has a spiritual experience of a fragrance which she believes to be connected with the Blessed Virgin Mary; still using the discipline. Less comment on her relationship with the Mother: however, she is sent away for the month of October again, then she is finally dismissed from SSC 'because so many aspirants were clamouring to come'. She seems to take her dismissal in good part, not least because of continued ill health - at one point she even believes she is dying - 'I am so ready .. for the summons'.
