Tymawr. The Mother threatens to abolish tertiaries; AT is sent away for a month in Oct 1943 - she is told that it is, inter alia, a 'test of detachment'. Increased silence - Lent is silent except for Friday teatimes. Letters from Alethea - 'she is herself again'. Continued comment on the war. Fordfield is leased to The Sisters of Hope as a nursing home for 5 years from June 1943 [letter from the Sisters pasted in]. Visitors include Julius and Constance. Feb 1944 - begins 'The Fruits of Silence' - first real writing for some years.
