Tymawr. This volume indicates a degree of unrest and a less devotional tone. There is further conflict with the Mother, who threatens to turn her out again. However, the unrest appears to subside a little by Sep. 1940. AT receives permission for a silent Lent and the volume ends with a debate over whether to seek further silence and solitude. Continued ill health - sciatica, boils and a septic toe. Further comment on the war, including news of bombing in Cambridge. Occasional news of family, including Julius' travels, Alethea's work at St Cuthbert's, and offers to Veronica of scholarships at Girton College, Cambridge and St Hugh's College, Oxford.
