Wetenhall Cottage. Personal: news of the death of Constantine; Anthony wishes to bring Elizabeth to visit; further bouts of illness, including rheumatic attacks, lumbago, bladder infections, 'cramp in my heart'; continued close relationship with Joan Cooper. Children: Alethea ill with old 'womb' trouble and returns home from Malling; Agatha teaches in Sussex for a while but is dismissed; Agatha works in the laundry for a while; Alethea to work at a retreat house in Sussex; Joan Cooper still considers the close unity of A+A and AT a bad thing. Visitors include Joan Cooper; Miss Allan; Fidelio; Julius; Helen Megaw; Anthony. Writing: working on her novel, 'O Passionate World'; reviews for 'Theology'; SPCK will publish 'The Closer Walk with God'. Religion: meditation in Little St Mary's; church services at St Columba's, St Botolph's, St Paul's, St Giles' and St Edward's; visit to Malling, spiritual experience, longing for solitude; tries a 'discipline' at the Lady Abbess' suggestion but can't see the point; vision of Christ's temptation in the desert; more and more time spent on meditation; May 1934 - AT is clothed as an oblate at St Mary's West Malling; July 1934 - a week's retreat at St Ursula's, Chiswick - meets Father Cary, who is to be her spiritual director; possibility of going to a convent in Oxford for the winter to keep a simple rule - Agatha is very upset at the prospect. At back: list of birds which have visited Wetenhall Cottage and newspaper notices of Constantine's death.
