Scope and Contents
Angarrach, Cornwall - Fordfield. Personal: relationship with Dr Joan Cooper continues to be intense; letters from Anthony, who is about to have an operation; AT visits him in London afterwards. Children: Alethea working at the Settlement; Alethea wishes to become a nun in a contemplative order at West Malling in Kent - "Agatha wept bitterly", AT wishes she had chosen a less austere order. Family: death of AT's mother 17 December 1932; Fordfield is left to AT for life; AT considers various possibilities for her future, but eventually decides to build a cottage at the west end of the garden of Fordfield. Visitors include Helen Megaw and the Keynes. Other activities include laundry business; having the garden measured up for Wetenhall Cottage; holiday in Cornwall with Agatha; letting Fordfield and selling the Grange. Writing: begins writing 'Victoria's Vow'; writes 14 pages on Solitude, sent to Richmond College in lieu of a talk; finishes the 'Victorian novel'. Religion: call to solitude and meditation is now very strong; occasional visions; various offers of Fordfield as a retreat house are turned down.
