Oxford - Fordfield. Personal: has an operation at the Evelyn Hospital in Oct 1932, though it is not a cancerous growth; relationship with Dr Joan Cooper becoming more intense; relationship with Anthony is still physical but is still trying to curtail it. Children: Alethea absorbed in religion; a fellow Girtonian 'took liberties' with Agatha - she never wants to live in College again; the idea of marriage frightens Agatha; Agatha and Humphrey decide once and for all not to marry. Family: mother is ill during AT's stay in the Evelyn. Visitors include Fidelio, and Lucy [nee Longstaffe]. Activities include holiday at Wootton, Oxford summer 1932; laundry business; giving Dr Joan Italian lessons; discussing the possibility of developing The Grange estate [in Cherry Hinton?]. Writing: discussions with Hutchinsons re 'The Phoenix'; takes up 'Victorian novel' again; Agatha considers 'The Approaching Storm' very good. Religion: 'tasted ''open vision'' as I did at Leiston'; has 'a strange ecstasy' during the Nicene creed at St Botolph's.
