Fordfield. Personal: tiredness and illness; still receives occasional visits from Willie Searle. Children: visits from Alethea and trips to Girton; father still difficult with both A+A; Alethea begins to take pupils and teach Italian; Agatha misses Alethea; Alethea spends 3 weeks over Easter with the Erlandes in France; Agatha suffers a bad back - 'will never be perfectly well'; A+A to tea with various admirers including Ian Dalrymple and Mervyn Roberts; July 1927 - A+A to Switzerland together; Constantine asks to see A+A - Oct 15 fixed as date for meeting. Family: visits to Phyllis and Eustace at Merton House; father very weak. Visitors include Miss Major, Mistress of Girton. Activities include hearing E M Forster lecture on 'Some Aspects of the Modern Novel' at the Arts School; 'Parkside Baby Clinic, talking Temperance to mothers and babies'; cycle rides, walks, picnics; teaching new pupils; visit to Homerton College - description of Miss [Mary] Allan; trips to the University Library; teaching at a summer school for foreigners at the University Board of Extra-Mural Studies. Writing: July 1927 - has inspiration for a new book, perhaps to be called 'The Mystic's Quest'. Religion: less evidence of the spiritual life at this point - March 1927 - 'How can I get time to meditate with busy days like these!'; services at St Columba's; this volume ends with a description of an experience of Universal Consciousness. Pasted in at back: 4 photographs including Alethea in the gardens at Girton; AT with the orphans from the Cottage Home; Alethea aged 18 and a half; Nadja.
