Scope and Contents
Lyons - Fordfield. AT spends a month with Constantine in Lyons. Largely factual description of activities and brief renewal of her life as a diplomat's wife. News form home. Also some comment on growing sterility of relationship with Constantine. 5 June 1919 - back to Fordfield. Visits from Fidelio. Social round, some remarks on the children. July - an Italian governess / nanny arrives for Alethea and Agatha. Continues to remark on her devotion to Constantine in spite of the situation. 9 July 1919 - Constantine suggests that AT should divorce him and demands custody of the children. 11 July 1919 - 'all my personal joy in life is over for ever' - most of the rest of this volume is devoted to long anguishing over the matter, dealings with solicitors etc.
