Scope and Contents
Fordfield - Emden - Fordfield. Personal: another baby, but it is stillborn in summer 1912; more conflict with Constantine now appearing; spends more time at Fordfield and less travelling with Constantine. Family: Eustace is courting Phyllis Mudie-Cooke [a Girtonian], and is admitted to a fellowship at Jesus College, Cambridge in 1913; Julius becomes engaged to Mina in 1912. Constantine is posted to Paris in 1913. Visitors and those visited in Cambridge include the Macaulays, Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson, Eric Silvanus, Marie Feyler, E M Forster, Margaret Keynes and Lucy [nee Longstaffe]. Places visited include Hessle (to visit CG's family), Letchworth (to visit 2 aunts), Odsey (Hertfordshire) (to visit the Fordhams). Writing: Feb 1913 - discusses with Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch an idea for an anthology of Cambridge verse. Religion: more frequent spiritual thoughts; in 1913 begins to think about Roman Catholicism again. Pasted in at back: 7 photographs including CG, AT, AT's mother, Willie Searle, Julius and Mina, and a pen and ink sketch of Eric [Silvanus].
