Fordfield - Avenue des Alpes, Lausanne. This volume contains further marginal notes added in later years. Family events: father becomes Mayor of Cambridge; brother Julius leavesTonbridge School. Political and current affairs comment - South Africa and Lord Kitchener. Visitors include Helen Verrall and Silvia Myers. Activities include visiting the elderly; a hospital bazaar; Sunday School teaching; a visit to Fulbourn Asylum; a visit to a Town Council meeting to see her father preside. Sep. 1900 - travels to Lausanne in Switzerland to continue her education, studying Italian and history of art at the Ecole Communale and diction at the Ecole Vinet. Mlle Feyler, a doctor in a lunatic asylum, becomes a particular friend. Horse riding lessons with a M. Jules Dufour. Correspondents include Lucy Longstaffe; Silvia Myers; and brother Julius, with news of life at Caius College. Novel writing less frequent for a while as she is too busy absorbing life and lessons in Lausanne. Attends the Presbyterian Church in Lausanne. Many social events, including a ball in Jan. 1901 - lengthy description. Death of Silvia Myers' father and consideration of whether Silvia will come to believe in God after all. At the end of this volume, there is a lengthy retrospective written by AT in 1924 at the age of 40. Also at the end of this volume, list of names and addresses of the boys AT taught in her Sunday School class.
