He informs her that he has written to Sir E[dward] Grey about a consulship for "Hugh", and that Lady Blanche [Hozier] is better and that the children are well. Letter from "Jack" [John S Churchill] to "Mama" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he and "Winny" [WSC] were invited to lunch with Aunt Cornelia [Lady Wimborne, formerly Lady Cornelia Churchill and Cornelia, Lady Guest] and asks her to send "Womany" [Elizabeth Everest] some money as "she is very low down indeed".

Letter from "Jack" [John S Churchill] ([Brighton, East Sussex]) to "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] asking him to send him autographs and photographs and reports that Miss Thomson considers that "Winny" [WSC] is "a very good boy" and that WSC is going to write a Greek play for Christmas.

Letter from WSC (Meerut [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he says that he did not write articles in the Pioneer, but criticises the Indian bureaucracy for "jobbery" and the mismanagement of the Tirah campaign. He discusses ["The Story of the Malakand Field Force"], says that he has been disappointed on re-reading the manuscript and reports that his team was defeated in the polo tournament.

Letter from WSC (Camp Ali Musjid, Khyber Pass [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he reports that he has been employed as orderly officer to Sir William Lockhart and that he has been assisted by Captain [Aylmer] Haldane and observes that the relations with the tribes are "pacific".

Letter from WSC (Peshawar [India]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he expresses his disappointment at receiving the proofs [of "The Story of the Malakand Field Force"] and the "gross solecisms and fearful blunders" contained therein and hopes that he may be able to delay its publication. He gives examples of mistakes, misprints and alterations by Moreton Frewen which he fears will make him (WSC) appear "shallow - ill educated - slovenly". Envelope present.
