Biography
Geoffrey Charles Purton joined the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd in 1898, aged 25. He served on the hulk 'Yuenfah', 1906-1917, and was appointed as the Agent of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd at Chungking in 1917. He retired from the company in 1928.

Copies of semi-official and property correspondence of the offices of Jardine, Matheson & Co. in the Upper Yangtsze Ports (Changsha, Chengtu, Chungking, Hankow and Ichang) and Lower Yangtsze Ports (Chinkiang, Kiukiang, Nanking and Wuhu), including correspondence with Jardine Matheson, Shanghai.
