Biography
Arthur Edward Shepherd was employed by Chinese Maritime Customs before joining Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd in 1916, aged 27. He was employed at Hankow, Shanghai and Tsingtao, working mainly in the Shipping Office, and was also the Agent at Chengtu, 1920-1923, and Chungking, 1923-1926. He resigned from the company in 1929.

Copies of semi-official and property correspondence of the offices of Jardine, Matheson & Co. in the Upper Yangtsze Ports (Changsha, Chengtu, Chungking, Hankow and Ichang) and Lower Yangtsze Ports (Chinkiang, Kiukiang, Nanking and Wuhu), including correspondence with Jardine Matheson, Shanghai.
