Biography

Robert Jardine Paterson joined Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd in 1919 after training as an accountant. He was employed in the Correspondence and Private Offices at Hong Kong and Shanghai, and was also the No. 2 at Tientsin, 1921-1923. He resigned from the company in 1930. He was the son of William Paterson and the brother of John Johnstone Paterson, both of Jardine, Matheson & Co.

Copies of semi-official and property correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Shanghai and Tientsin, with enclosed letters and papers, including copies of telegrams, monthly Tientsin agency reports and financial statements, and Tientsin Produce Department memoranda. The correspondents are R.M. Austin, B.D.F. Beith, P.S. Jameson, John Johnstone, D.L. Newbigging, J.F. Owen, J.J. Paterson, R.J. Paterson, E.C. Peters, W.W.G. Ross and A. Brooke Smith.
