Biography

The Canadian Pacific Railway Company was incorporated in 1881 to develop railways in Canada. It subsequently diversified into other areas of business, including airlines, energy and mining, hotels, shipping, telecommunications and trucking, leading to the renaming of the company as Canadian Pacific Ltd in 1971. The company divided its subsidiaries into five separate companies in 2001.
