Biography
Common Brothers Ltd, shipowners and managers, Newcastle upon Tyne, was founded by the Common family in the 1900s. The firm's companies included the Hindustan Steam Shipping Co. Ltd and the ship management subsidiary Common Brothers (Management) Ltd. It commenced the joint ventures the Lowland Shipping Co. Ltd and Vallum Shipping Co. Ltd with Matheson & Co. Ltd during the 1950s. The company was bought from the Commons by the Norwegian firm Norex Ltd in 1981.
