Letter to Rivers from C. S. Myers with thanks for sending the 'Lancet' paper and commenting on it, 1917-08-02
Myers praises Rivers for his work, but goes on to try to convince Rivers that hypnosis can be used effectively to reveal repressed memories (something Rivers is against).
'Mechanism in Nerve Centers', 1930
This is framed as a rebuttal of Professor Alexander Forbes. Forbes wrote a letter which appeared in 'Nature' for 14th December 1929 refuting the arguments MacCurdy made in criticism of the mechanistic interpretation of reflex functions. MacCurdy here therefore justifies his own position and gives further detail to support his view about 'vicarious functions' and the central nervous system. This hinges on the definition of the term 'automatic'.
On the connexion between the rate of stimulation and the number of shocks needful to produce a reflex action, 190710
This collection of notes includes a description of an experiment, a diagram as well as a photograph of some apparatus and a graph representing data. A scrap of data print-out included in this collection has the name 'H. Head' (Henry Head) written on the back with the date, October 1907. This suggests a connection with the experiment carried out by W. H. R. Rivers on Head's arm.
Photograph of Head's forearm and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19031214
Head's thumb has been drawn on in ink, but there are also pen markings added onto the photograph labelling different parts of the thumb in red ink with lettering.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19050605
A grid has been drawn on Head's hand in ink, with dots arranged within the grid to show the arrangement of nerve endings beneath the skin.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand, resting on a clam, with palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19031026
Head's arm has been drawn on with ink markings to show the location of nerves beneath the skin, and the words 'Line of change' written twice following the wavy lines that show the area under investigation.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb facing downwards, 19060311
A grid has been drawn in ink on Head's hand to show the location of nerve endings beneath the skin, with dots arranged within the grid to show their position.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb facing downwards and with many ink markings drawn on the skin, The date 'July 4' is written beneath the photograph but no year is given.
The ink markings on the skin show the location of nerve endings throughout the area.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb facing downwards but fingers extended straight, 19040808
A grid pattern has been drawn on Head's hand in ink, with dots inside the grid.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19031123
There are ink markings on Head's skin showing the area of investigation and the location of nerve endings.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19040113
Head's arm and hand have been drawn on with ink to mark location of nerve endings beneath the skin.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19050213
There are various ink markings drawn on Head's arm and hand to show the location of nerves beneath the skin, and a grid with dots inside.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm and thumb pointing downwards, 19050521
There are ink markings on the photograph in red and blue ink. Beneath the photograph, on the card mount, are written the words: 'Red= loss of light touch; Blue= line of change to Prick'.

A grid patterm has been drawn on Head's hand in ink with dots arranged withink it to show the location of nerves beneath the skin.
Photograph of Head's forearm (extended) and hand resting on a clamp, palm facing the camera and thumb pointing upwards, No year is given, but 'July 4' is written on the card mount underneath the photograph.
