‘Wawona’ 28 feet diameter, 275 feet high Mariposa Grove, 1885

203 x 305 mm. A view of the base of Wawona, the famous Sequoia tree through which a hole measuring 11 feet by 8 feet has been cut. A coach is passing through the hole, while two couples pose at either side of the tree. Mariposa Grove situated in the Yosemite National Park, contains about 200 giant Sequoia.

214 x 157 mm. A group portrait of six men and one woman, on horseback in the Yosemite Valley. Behind this is a photograph of the group of travellers with A. Elsy among them, but since no key is given identification is impossible. A slightly murky print, due to under-exposure and probably taken by an amateur photographer.
