296 x 243 mm. View of a waterfall cascading over a massive rock, with an Indian figure seated in the foreground. Bourne and Playfair remained at Prini for three days but, the weather being unfavourable, no photographs were taken. This picture is presumably of 'the pretty waterfall close by' which they came across while preparing to ascend the Humta Pass, (B.J.P., 24 December 1869, p. 613). Bourne no. 1440.

240 x 290 mm. View looking out over the valley, with two figures posed beside the pine tree in the foreground and the Chini peaks beyond. Bourne stayed some time at Chini, varnishing and sorting his collection of negatives made in the preceding weeks (62 in number, in addition to small ones). He had agreed to meet Dr Playfair here (Y3022C/ 20, 27), but received a note stating that the doctor had hurt his ankle and therefore proceeded to Simla. Bourne no. 1509

The new road across the Rogi Cliffs, 1866

Scope and Contents 243 x 294 mm. View looking along the sheer cliff face, to the side of which clings the narrow road (protected from the drop by a wooden fence) on the caravan route to Tibet. The cliffs are situated near Chini, a village near the Sutlej River some 70 miles ENE of Simla. The cliffs were first visited and photographed by Bourne in 1863, ‘In some places these precipitous walls are so stupendous as to stagger both the sense and the imagination. In the case of the Rogee Cliffs ... they are found...
