Ringbarked and unringbarked, Comly, Mingenew, 1910
205 x 150 mm. Showing a group of treated and untreated trees. First practised on a large scale in the 1860s, ringmarking [sic] is a technique of killing trees by cutting into the bark to check the flow of sap, and thus making the land free for grass cultivation. The practice has been responsible for the destruction of vast amounts of timber in Australia.
