The fish from Lunenburg are chiefly exported to the West Indies, Porto Rico [sic], Cuba, Panama, Colon and Haiti. This company turns out annually about 70, 000 quintals (cwts) of dried codfish caught by schooners of 99 tons on the Grand Banks. The fish are brought here in salt.
