Government House, S.E. [i.e. South-East] Entrance, Grenada, 1890 - 1893
318 x 216 mm. A view looking across the garden and drive towards Government House, in front of which stands a landau with a uniformed driver. This new, brick built Government House was commenced while the previous Governor, Sir Walter Sendall, was away from the island in 1886, the year after Grenada became the headquarters for the Windward Islands administration. The figure standing on the steps leading up to the house is probably Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson.

Standing in the drive in the foreground is the Governor of the Windward Islands, Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson (1849-1913), who assumed the post from November 1889 until 1893. He later spent nine years as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Cape Colony.

208 x 154 mm. A fine group portrait of plantation workers with women at the front holding baskets. Behind them stand the male pickers who hold long poles, at the end of which are mitten-shaped knives used to cut the fruit from the tops of the trees.

Two documents, 1801 (3 pages) and 1802 (7 pages), regarding the transfer of land in Grenada from the Vicomte and Vicomtesse de Fleury to Alexander Campbell, Junior. One of the sureties is Alexander Campbell, the elder, presumably the plaintiff in the famous lawsuit Campbell v Hall.

Grenada : packing cocao [cacao] for fermentation, 1890
153 x 209 mm. Showing two workers loading baskets of beans into wooden 'sweating boxes' where they ferment in a mixture of their own enzymes and wild yeast from two to nine days before being sun-dried.

Grenada, Richmond Hill Fort, 1890
