Half-plate. The building was erected by Raja Mon Singh about the year 1600 A.D., and was used as an observatory in the time of hs descendant Sawar Jaya Singh, the founder of Jaypore. The Samrat Yantra was for finding time and destination and hour angle of the heavanly bodies. (Fisher).
