Red Flowering Gum, Perth [coloured], 1900 - 1950
A collection of lantern slides of Australia (plus one duplicate). 5-10 are marked 'Commonwealth of Australia' and have serial numbers. 12-22 are marked 'Department of Agriculture and Stock, Brisbane'. The slides' captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

Ringbarked and unringbarked, Comly, Mingenew, 1910
205 x 150 mm. Showing a group of treated and untreated trees. First practised on a large scale in the 1860s, ringmarking [sic] is a technique of killing trees by cutting into the bark to check the flow of sap, and thus making the land free for grass cultivation. The practice has been responsible for the destruction of vast amounts of timber in Australia.

Many photos do not appear in the exact numerical order given in the listing. The rest of the images are uncaptioned, but their general locations have been identified by reference to the diary RCMS 353/1.
