Garden Island, Sydney, 1885
190 x 140 mm. A view of the island from the east, showing a few buildings which are probably naval warehouses. From 1866 the island was used as a depot for H.M. Ships in Australian waters. From 1877, when a financial arrangement was agreed, building started on the island. This photograph was probably taken around 1885, before building had progressed to any great extent. Between 1940-45 the island was made into a peninsula, joined to the mainland by a graving dock.

205 x 150 mm. View of mine buildings with chimneys and railway line. Boulder is a town on the eastern goldfields, just south of Kalgoorlie, which proved an immensely rich lead, and led to the discovery of the 'Golden Mile', one of the largest gold-bearing areas in the world.
