This is a detailed memoir by Gutteridge describing his wartime experience. It is divided into three sections, covering his work as a Customs Officer, his service in the M.R.N.V.R. on a ship carrying evacuees to Batavia, and his capture and confinement aboard a ship in Singapore Harbour before being transferred to Changi Prisoner of War Camp (20 sheets).
