The collection includes Bagnall's account of his evacuation from Singapore during the Second World War immediately before its fall to the Japanese in Feb. 1942. It is accompanied by photographs of the home he occupied at the time.
Sir William Maxwell, 1887 - 1958
Biographical material on the colonial administrator Sir William Maxwell (1846-1897) who served as Acting Governor of the Straits Settlements, 1893-95. It includes printed extracts from official documents covering his service in Malaya, 1875-87, a copy of a farewell address from Perak dated 1882, several newspaper articles, and correspondence with his son Sir George Maxwell, who also composed a biographical article (40 sheets).
