The collection includes Bagnall's account of his evacuation from Singapore during the Second World War immediately before its fall to the Japanese in Feb. 1942. It is accompanied by photographs of the home he occupied at the time.

Biographical / Historical

Sir John Bagnall joined the Straits Trading Company in Singapore in 1912 and became its Chairman and Managing Director in 1923. He retired in 1947. Bagnall served in the Singapore government as Senior Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council, and on the Finance Committee, Opium Advisory Committee and Executive Council.
