Hospital, Brisbane-from Bowen Bridge Road, 1886
230 x 180 mm. A notice by the gate informs us that visiting days were Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday from 2 till 5 p.m. The hospital is now in the centre of the city. In 1867, when it was opened, there was anger at its being built so far out of town.

180 x 140 mm. Showing the derrick with people, traps and horses grouped around. From the derrick fly two flags, the Union Jack, and another on which the lettering is too blurred to be decipherable. Probably taken during a fair or exhibition to judge by the tents and marquees in the distance.
Hustin’s Ferry, Logan River, 1873
390 x 133 mm. A panoramic view of a curve in the river taken from a garden by the riverside, with the ferry carrying a horse and wagon in the middle distance. The signs of ground clearing, and the fairly untrained nature of the garden, would make it seem probable that this was an area newly settled in 1873.

A collection of lantern slides of Australia (plus one duplicate). 5-10 are marked 'Commonwealth of Australia' and have serial numbers. 12-22 are marked 'Department of Agriculture and Stock, Brisbane'. The slides' captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

Letter on the town of Gore, 1890-05-10
A letter from Thomas Hocken, Dunedin, to Stanley Edwards regarding a Maori name for the town of Gore. The location appeared to have no prior place-name, and Hocken suggests several Maori words suitable for this purpose.
