Scope and Contents Circular copper token 34 mm in diameter inscribed, 'A. Toogood Merchant Pitt & King St. Sydney’. On the reverse is a woman in classical dress representing Justice, holding a set of scales in her right hand, and an overflowing cornucopia in her left. She is seated on a wool bale, and behind her, a wine barrel lies on the ground and ship sails across the horizon. Above her ‘Australia’ and the date ‘1855’ are inscribed.The token had the value of a penny and was produced by W.J. Taylor...

On the corner of the street in front is a suitably elaborate drinking fountain. Designed by J.H. Wilson, building started in 1868, the Duke of Edinburgh laying the foundation stone, and the clocktower was completed in 1875. Triggs' Memorial Gates, Yass, N.S.W [i.e. New South Wales], 1949

Scope and Contents

Arthur Bryant Triggs (1868-1936) was a pastoralist and art collector. He settled at Yass in 1888, becoming a leading station owner and sheep dealer. He died in Yass in 1936 and the people of the town subsequently erected memorial gates at Victoria Park.
