148 x 198 mm. A view of the monument erected in 1905 to celebrate the first English landing in Barbados three hundred years before from the ship 'Olive Blossom.' 'They erected a cross and inscribed on a tree the words 'James K of E and this island' thus constituting possession for the crown in whose uninterrupted possession this island has remained' (part of inscription on monument).

203 x 147 mm. A view looking toward the hotel buildings which stand on a palm covered clifftop overlooking the sea at the south-eastern end of the island. The hotel was one of the most popular in Barbados in the last of the nineteenth century and the beginning of this.

At the extreme left of the print are the premises of Da Costa and Co., one of the oldest established firms in Barbados. Originally trading as Barrow and Dummett, the business was bought by David Da Costa in 1868. Next to Da Costa and Co. is the Harbourmaster's Office.
