The Devils Cataract is on the left of the picture and you can just see the gorge into which it falls. A portion of the main Falls can be seen in the background.

It shows the great depth of the gorge. The bridge is about 380 ft above the water at this time of the year. The sides of the gorge are very thickly wooded.

196 x 238 mm. Showing a large tree on the banks of the Umzingwani, with two unidentified Pioneers standing at its base. Surridge specifically mentions the size of the timber on the banks of the river compared to that in the neighbouring country (1891). The photograph was taken about July 15.
