The Astana, 1900
143 x 103 mm. View from the driveway of the Palace of the Rajahs of Sarawak. The Astana (built c 1870) consists of a conventional two storey verandahed house in bungalow style fronted by a crenelated stone tower in Gothic taste. This latter housed the billiard room, with the principal reception rooms on the first floor of the main block. In the left background can be seen one of the bedroom wings. The ground floor contained the Rajah’s offices, guardroom, kitchen and bathrooms.

The Birch Memorial, Pasir Salak, Perak River, 1921, 1921
80 x 136 mm. Showing the granite obelisk raised in memory of James Wheeler Woodford Birch, first British Resident in Perak, who was murdered in 1875. The inscription, not legible here, reads: 'Here at the fort of Datok Maharaja Lela the Honourable J.W. Birch, First British Resident of Perak, was killed in the performance of his duty on 2nd November 1875'.

The Borneo Company’s House, Kuching, 1900
147 x 103 mm. View from the lawn of the main façade of the Borneo Company headquarters at Kuching, a two storey building with a central projecting entrance porch, verandahed the whole way round the building on both floors. On the ground floor the verandah is supported on whitewashed or stuccoed columns, on the floor above by less substantial wooden posts.

‘The curse that got loose’, 1960 - 1962
An account by Clayton of panic among the inhabitants of Pulau Tioman, caused by the combination of a curse placed upon them with an outbreak of the disease beriberi in 1927. He removed the panic by pretending to dispose of the bark the curse had been written upon (3 copies, 12 sheets).
