Sir Laurence Guillemard landing at Alor Star, January 1921, 1921-01-12

Scope and Contents

198 x 145 mm. A view looking along the landing stage towards the gangway along which Sir Laurence Nunns GUILLEMARD (1862-1951), Governor of the Straits Settlements 1919-1927, is disembarking from a river steamer. Alwyn Sidney HAYNES, Secretary to Guillemard, stands behind him at the top of the gangway. This visit, on January 12 1921, was Guillemard's first to Kedah.

122 x 71 mm. Crossing the Perak near Kuala Kangsar, Lindsay Vears on right. Showing the four elephants and their passengers crossing the Perak River. The Sultan of Perak, Sir Iskander Shah is seated on the elephant at the left, Sir Laurence and Lady Guillemard on the next elephant, an unidentified couple on the third and Lindsay Vears (no further information) on the fourth. Guillemard was Governor of the Straits Settlements 1919-1927.
