'Waiting for tents to be put up.' This watercolour shows the fort and settlement at Kipture which was an important point on the Uganda Road and an administrative centre for the Nandi district from 1896-1901. It was a base for operations against the Nandi in 1897, 1899 and 1900, and was taken over by the Sudanese during the mutiny of 1897.

The men danced a v. pretty dance and sang really musically. Some of the young women were naked, others had only an apology for an apron in the way of strings of beads and leather.
