When the RES Headquarters was rebuilt in 1934-36, gifts of timber for panelling and furnishing were obtained from Empire Governments, companies and individuals. Many were destroyed during the bombing of 1941 and replacement gifts were received. This file coordinates pre and post-war correspondence.

370 x 250 mm. The cut-out head-and-shoulder pictures of two boys have been stuck to the original photograph so that, at a glimpse, they appear to have been part of the original. They are located at the far-left and mid-right of the group. The caption on the back of the print reads: 'East Africa 1930. Left Aug.1.1930 returned Nov.22.1930. 29 boys 4 directors'.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: A collection of photographs, by various photographers, relating to School Empire Tours, probably compiled by Miss Margaret Best. All the prints are captioned and some also have dates and places written on the back in Miss Best's hand.It should be noted that most of the images show groups of the participants, either before setting out or in the country concerned, but there is very little to show their activities - the 1932 tour to Canada is the best in this respect. 155 x 112 mm. Showing Gedge’s tent pitched in a clearing beneath tall euphorbias, with an African servant standing at the entrance. Gedge does not specifically mention the taking of this photograph, but in his diary for the 24th records ‘went up a hill here and took a couple of photos’.
