197 x 148 mm. General view of the Mount Lavinia Hotel, some seven miles from Colombo. The main part of the hotel stands on a small headland overlooking the ocean with a single storied verandahed building, presumably providing additional accommodation. The main house was a two storey stone building with a balcony originally built for the Governor of Ceylon, Sir Edward Barnes.

The single storey thatched bungalow is situated beside the track and separated from it by a small banana plantation. A gang of labourers stands on the line in the middle ground. The figures standing in front of the bungalow are presumably Mr Gallott and his wife.
