In 1939 the foul and congested slums of the town were cleaned up. Three wide roads were driven through the town and the 600 people thus dispossessed were moved to a new site - Takalafiy, three-quarters of a mile away. The picture shows a woman of Anchau slums before the town was cleaned up'.
