The caption on the reverse reads: 'Kormantin Fort with Fishing Village, Abadsi, Gold Coast. Kormantin Fort was built by the British in 1555 at the invitation of the local chief. At this time the Portuguese had the bulk of the trade on the Guinea Coast and frequent collisions occurred between the adventurous merchants of the two nations'.

175x118mm. Showing an African entourage, probably at the 1946 Durbar, with a European seated in the foreground. A group of servants hold ceremonial umbrellas above the chief African figures. The central figure in the group appears to be Sir Nana Osei Agyeman Prempeh II (1892-1970), Asnatehene from 1935-70, although he is not specifically identified.

42x60mm. Kwame Nkrumah (1909-1972) became leader of Government Business in 1951, a title altered to Prime Minister in 1952. He led his country to independence in 1957 and was elected President in 1960. He was overthrown by a coup in 1966 and died in exile.
